A Room with a View

I’m feeling very grateful to have a week or so to write and hike around Sooke on Vancouver Island, staying in this amazing room with a view.

The Prestige Oceanfront Resort in Sooke has held a special place in my soul ever since I started coming here with my husband for work 5 or 6 years ago. Open for around 7 years, this hotel has become a hot destination for weddings and such. However, it still retains a peaceful serenity in the spring time, and for that, I am also grateful. All this, and dog friendly too!

Specifically spectacular points of interest for me and my energetic Boston Terrier include:

  1. French Beach Provincial Park, Juan de Fuca, past Sooke and just before Jordan River. Awesome place to let your dog get some runs in (and you too)! A rewarding ocean beach at the bottom too.
  2. Whiffin Spit, around a twenty minute walk from The Prestige Inn in Sooke. An on-leash dog park, although most good dog owners use their common sense and let their pups run free and get some much-needed exercise. Spectacular ocean views but can get very breezy.
  3. Ed McGregor Park, right in Sooke. A beautiful boardwalk hike down to a pier on the oceanfront. What could be better than that?
  4. The Sooke Potholes, outside of Sooke towards Victoria. Just beautiful hiking and very cool rock formations that people swim in during the warmer months.

I am so excited to be here again to soak up the healing negative ions of the ocean. And eat some amazing food too – the clam chowder at the Inn’s West Coast Grill restaurant is delicious, in addition to the fine dining at Point No Point outside of town, again toward Jordan River.

I’m in my happy place again, but still missing my Mom, who passed away in August of last year. I see her beautiful soul sparkling in the water, everywhere.
